According to a report in Think Progress, a Democratic Congressman was allegedly physically assaulted at a town hall meeting. This story is breaking and there are few details at this time. I will update this diary as more information is gathered.
As lobbyist-run groups encourage conservative activists to "rattle" members of Congress at local town hall events, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), the president of the freshman Democratic class has revealed that "at least one freshman Democrat" has already been "physically assaulted at a local event." Connolly warned that conservative groups had taken things to a "dangerous level"
Diarist Rashaverakover at Daily Kos reminds us how committed leading Republicans are to these extremely angry and disruptive town hall meetings in which no discussion or dialogue is possible.
Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, has endorsed the strategy of staged protests, telling Politico the days of civil town halls are now "over." In a memo to House Republicans, Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) promised "anger" during the August recess: "Americans' anger will be on full display in the weeks ahead as Members of Congress leave Washington and travel the nation listening to the voices of their constituents."
It seems to me that the Republican Party has been turned over to middle school children and to very emotionally unstable and paranoid adults. Republicans do not believe all citizens have the right to express their opinions or concerns about health care reform to elected officials. Its only mission is to guard the money. They guard the money by blocking, obstructing and denying health care reform.
