TAKE TEXAS BACK!
A bunch of thieves, thugs, and nutcases took over Texas. Then they used it as a stepping stone to Washington, DC.

They raided our treasury, stripped our schools and handed it all to their corporate cronies.

TX-Sen: John Cornyn Helps Keeps Anti-Minimum Wage Hike Filibuster Going

by: alaprst

(Senator Cornyn choses to feast on the marrow of minimum wage workers yet again. - promoted by boadicea)

If you didn't know that John Cornyn doesn't care much about average Texans, check out his vote to sustain a GOP fillibuster against the House-passed increase in the minimum wage.
The vote to break the evil GOP filibuster was 54-43, short of the 3/5 majority needed to bring the bill to a vote.
Cornyn was joined by Texas' other GOP senator, Kay Bailey Hutchison, in voting to sustain the fillibuster.

alaprst :: TX-Sen: John Cornyn Helps Keeps Anti-Minimum Wage Hike Filibuster Going
These Republican filibuster backers who so cruelly and callously turned their back on workers with this vote should spend a few weeks working at minimum wage jobs.
They should feel what it is like for these workers to sustain their families and provide the health care they need.
They may think the minimum wage hike should be tied in with more tax cuts for businesses, but try telling that to workers who already are suffering the effects of working in low-paying jobs with few, if any, benefits.
Perhaps, these Republicans will think twice before ever stabbing average workers in the back again. In the meantime, I hope a strong opponent who is well-funded will be found to challenge this Bush rubber stamp and anti-worker junior senator and defeat him.

Let's hang this one around his neck (4.00 / 4)
Box Turtle has, throughout his political career, cared much more for corporations than he has for people.

I want this man out of the Senate, and I want the strongest possible challenger to replace him.

Statement from The Great Cornholio (4.00 / 3)
his website
"America's small businesses are the engine driving America's economy, and as we consider increasing the minimum wage, we must also consider the new burdens this will place on small business owners.  Most studies show that unless an increase in the minimum wage is coupled with protections for small businesses in the form of new tax incentives, it will have negative effects on employment.  So instead of simply raising the minimum wage as the Democrats would have us do, Republicans are standing with small business owners and are working to include protections that will offset higher labor costs.

"Yet, in looking for ways to keep our economy moving forward, I am deeply disappointed that my Democrat colleagues turned their backs today on the opportunity to address wasteful federal spending by rejecting a line-item veto amendment to the minimum wage bill-an amendment that was nearly identical to one that the Democrats themselves introduced in 1995.  Today's vote is particularly difficult to reconcile considering the Democrats' repeated commitments to join Republicans on spending restraint.  The line-item veto would have been a critical tool in doing just that - so the Democrats' rejection of this important amendment is disappointing, to say the least."

Tax cuts are not the answer to every issue. The vote was about the minimum wage not about how awful the democratic party is. Party over people is Senator Cornyn's motto. Senator Cornyn doesn't care at all about the people of Texas, if the republicans want a parrot as Senator from Texas at least they can do better than this jerk.

There is an art to being a partisan hack and the Senator doesn't even know how to be a good one.

ABC - anybody but Cornyn. What a f*ckhead.

"join Republicans on spending restraint" (4.00 / 3)
What spending restraint have your republicans shown Johnny boy?  How the hell do you think we got into this trillion dollar deficit and an Iraq war with no end that bleeds $2 billion a week from the U.S treasury.  The only thing that should be restrained is your mouth, deficit boy.

Read that again $2 billion a week.  Imagine what we could do with that money?

Cost of Iraq war nearly $2b a week
A new congressional analysis shows the Iraq war is now costing taxpayers almost $2 billion a week -- nearly twice as much as in the first year of the conflict three years ago and 20 percent more than last year -- as the Pentagon spends more on establishing regional bases to support the extended deployment and scrambles to fix or replace equipment damaged in combat.

The upsurge occurs as the total cost of military operations at home and abroad since 2001, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, will top half a trillion dollars, according to an internal assessment by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service completed last week.

seems that the only way (0.00 / 0)
to keep a republican fiscally conscience is to keep him in the minority.

I'm personally an advocate (4.00 / 4)
of tying minimum wage to inflation. If we did that, there would be none of this "wage increases hurt small businesses" crap. After all, increases of 2 - 3% every year has nowhere near the supposed impact of a 40% increase every 10 years.

or have it tied to Congressional pay raises (4.00 / 3)
the percentage increase being the same.

Shit, if they did that (4.00 / 1)
I'd be making less than your average burger flipper.

WTF? (4.00 / 3)
This sumbitch has got to go. He hates America (supports Iraq Quagmire), but what is worse, he hates Texas! Most people living here live paycheck to paycheck...and have no health insurance. This bastrad has the cajones to go on record basically saying "Fu*k Y'all". We can do better...a lot better.

I'm tired of Cornyn's excuse making for not voting for the minimum wage (4.00 / 4)
He and his allies may want to talk about procedures and "small businesses," but he needs to explain that to folks throughout our state who work these minimum wage jobs. Seems like Cornyn has no clue about many of his constituents, and we need to replace him with someone who does.
Ditto for Pete Sessions (CD-32) who voted against raising the minimum wage when it came to a vote in the House.

Jeez (4.00 / 2)
Cornyn actually voted to ABOLISH the federal minimum wage. Strangely enough, Kay Bailey Fussysnatch didn't.
