TAKE TEXAS BACK!
A bunch of thieves, thugs, and nutcases took over Texas. Then they used it as a stepping stone to Washington, DC.

They raided our treasury, stripped our schools and handed it all to their corporate cronies.

Bush Threatens to Veto Hate Crimes Law

His Bigotry and that of his Administration is a legend. I know it is too late for Shrub to grew a heart or a conscience and that he learned his compassion from his mother, Barbara, who said Katrina survivors in Texas were better off because they had been so poor in New Orleans. This from the man who wanted to be known as a compassionate conservative. If this is compassion, I want none of it. Shame on you Shrub!!!

House votes to extend federal protection to gender, sexual orientation

WASHINGTON - Just hours after the White House issued a veto threat Thursday, the House voted to add gender and sexual orientation to the categories covered by federal hate crimes law.

The House legislation, passed 237-180, also makes it easier for federal law enforcement to take part in or assist local prosecutions involving bias-motivated attacks. Similar legislation is also moving through the Senate, setting the stage for another veto showdown with President Bush.

The White House, in a statement warning of a veto, said state and local criminal laws already cover the new crimes defined under the bill, and there was "no persuasive demonstration of any need to federalize such a potentially large range of violent crime enforcement."

Hypocrisy on both damn sides. Ok, so as I've said before, I don't really believe in the concept of "hate crimes" in that I think a crime is a crime. But hear me out here, my outrage is mainly at the right.

From CNN:

Rep. Tom Feeney, R-Florida, said it is unfair to single out specific groups for protection under the law.

"What it does is to say that the dignity, the property, the life of one person gets more protection than another American. That's just wrong," he said.

First of all, Tom Feeney is definitely on the right regarding social issues.

Fine, Tom. If you're going to stick to that opinion, then introduce legislation to abolish all hate-crime law. If you don't, you're saying that women are "more equal", that Christians are "more equal", that Muslims are "more equal", that blacks are "more equal" than all other Americans that don't fit those descriptions. Is that what you really believe, Tom? Or are you just hanging on to the last bit of bigotry that is somewhat socially acceptable?

are saying that this will outlaw "sharing your faith" with people. Nice euphamism. I've had those people share their faith at me before. People shouting at you about how you're going to hell, blocking your way, yeah, nice "sharing". Some of the stories from my DK diary are really scary. (and this isn't diary pimping, because you can't recommend anything there any more, it's too old)

If they can't share their faith without having to hate on people, what good is their faith anyway?

I'm sure when the KKK was burning crosses in the front yards of black people, they were "sharing their faith" too.
