 | A man in London protested against animal cruelty...by eating a dog. And not just any dog but the corgi dog especially loved by Queen Elizabeth II.
The man, Mark McGowan, ate corgi dog meatballs live on radio in a stunt to draw media attention to allegations the Queen's husband, Prince Phillip, beat a fox to death on a hunt. "We love our animals in Britain," McGowan told AP Television News. "Why is it then that we then allow people -- especially people who are supposed to be ambassadors for this country -- to treat animals with such disrespect?" |
WTF!?! With all due respect Mr. McGowan, how did this help the animal rights movement but to paint us as nutty and even hypocritical? Yes, you did, in a twisted way, accomplish the goal of brining attention to this specific story. Yes, perhaps, you may have embarrassed the royal blue-bloods, but did you damage the animal cruelty movement as a whole by making them (us) appear irrational - perhaps even crazy?
I don't know. Perhaps I just don't get British humor or satire, but would you, say, eat a human to protest the death penalty? It would definitely shock people and get attention, but GOD would the issue of the death penalty be lost in that act.
Much like, for instance, the issue of animal cruelty caused by fox hunting is lost with this stunt. Just a thought. |
