| If you haven't been following the strange saga of Republican Senator Larry Craig, then I can't say I blame you. Republican gay sex scandals are so yaaawn blaise. I mean how many has it been? Remember Republican pedophile and Congressmen Mark Foley and GOP and White House buddy Rev. Ted Haggard? And now another one (that we know of) with GOP Senator Larry Craig.
Just how many gay sex prostitution scandals can one party have? Could we at least have a straight sex scandal for a change? Of course I doubt that it would scandalize many Republicans because if you watched Craig's tuesday press conference, the thing that really irks the GOP is the fact that there gay sex involved. With his embarrassed and dutiful wife in tow, Craig like some scared Apostle took great pain to deny THREE TIMES that he was not gay.
So denying homosexuality was three times more important than denying that he's a John? Pathetic but that's the GOP for ya.
By obsessing so much about homosexuality for the past decade (and more), the GOP has overlooked the sins and ailments in society and inits own party. From the mortgage meltdown which foreshadows a recession to inadequate levee funding that sank NOLA to the corruption in the Bush administration, Republicans ignored serious problems in America in pursuit of wiping out and alienating perfectly healthy and productive Americans whose only "crime" was to love differently than these bigots.
These bigots undermined our national security, our economy, our goddamn civil liberties and for what? To tell people who they can f**k?? Once again the GOP proves (on the anniversary of Katrina no less) that its priorities are not in the interest of the American people.
Another GOP sex scandal would be trivial or even funny if it weren't for the fact that millions of Americans are affected by their incompetence and ignorance.
And if you think that in the case of Craig, that the damage is limited to Idaho, you are very very wrong.
As a member of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, Craig made decisions that effected all of us. And it was the leadership that knowingly ignored pedophile Mark Foley which put Craig on such a powerful committee.
And since they would only put someone on who would represent their interests and values, you have got to wonder what exactly does the 'Family Values' party really value and what they consider a sin.
Whether you're for or against homosexuality, don't you want you politicians to be obsessed about issues that actually affect you?
Like the economy or corruption or, oh, a certain war? Living in fear of what a couple guys are doing in San Francisco is not just crazy. It's downright sick.
As sick being more embarrassed that you were outed as a 'queer' than the fact that you exposed to be a hypocrite, engaged in an illegal act, embarrassed your nation, brought shame to your family, and undermined the trust of children who are supposed to look up to you.
The Republican Party should be ashamed of another scansal but if it gets obsessed with homosexuality again, then this will not be the last GOP scandal. |
