Sen. Mario Gallegos Addresses the State Convention

It took a united state Senate Caucus last year to beat back Lt. Gov David Dewhirst's attempt to cram voter suppression legislation in the name of non-existent voter fraud.

Key to that was a grievously ill Senator Mario Gallegos who literally put himself on the line to prevent the bill from coming to the floor.

So it was great to see him back in fighting form, and addressing the Texas Democratic Convention.

Dewey and the Republiduds will be coming for the voting nuns (and others) at the next opportunity. Count on it.

We need a strong Democratic caucus in both sides of the Pink Dome to continue keeping our voting rights protected.

Remember that straight Democratic Ticket in November.

Willie Ray Refused to Be Bullied by Greg Abbott (4.00 / 1)

She is one of the ladies who file the suit that forced Greg Abbott to stop that particular line of bullshit.

He had no case, and when they wouldn't back down, Abbott folded like a cheap suit.

Good for Willie Ray. She knows what's going on. They are scared of voters turning out at the polls.

I loved hearing Willie Ray speak. Quiet dignity, but absolutely iron resolve. Many thanks to her for taking it to Greg Abbott.

As for Sen. Gallegos...I nearly lost composure when I saw the stream of supporters from his delegation marching to the podium before his speech.

I got to explain to one of the Convention volunteers the backstory behind the Senator's fight, and he was suitably impressed. I was a starry-eyed (and teary-eyed) fan girl while I laid out the details.

Yeah, saw my fair share of heroes this weekend. I was very proud of Texas.

I have photos that I'll try to post later. Can't do it from the office...
