This morning when I unfolded the front page of the Houston Chronicle the headline
GOP begins to show signs of resurgence
hit me in the face.
Really? A Republican resurgence?
I guess the fact that much of his N.J. constituency viewed Corzine as arrogant, corrupt and the dude who saddled his constituents with high property taxes while at the same time has strong ties to the thieves of all thieves, Goldman Sachs, had nothing to do with his loss.
And let's ignore the fact that Wall. St. and the financial sector is among the largest employer in the NYC and northern NJ area. Many mid to lower level employees in the financial sector received pink slips when Wall St. crashed. I guess these folks are not in the least bit angry at those who are or were part of the Wall St. establishment.
Earth to GOP obstructionists: incumbents even remotely tied to the Wall St. melt down and the thieving banks are going to get the boot unless Congress does something to regulate and demand transparency from the financial industry.
The once popular New York's former Democrat and now Republican billionaire mayor Bloomberg had to spend millions upon millions of his own money, outspending his opponents 10 to 1 to barely squeak by a win.
And a lackluster candidate in purple Virginia who ran a lackluster campaign in which he fled from a progressive agenda in a state that traditionally votes for a Governor who is not in the same Party as the President, is a sign of a GOP insurgence?
Voters don't vote if candidates fail to excite them. And no matter the party, voters will vote against corrupted and/or lying incumbents. Nor will they vote for a candidate who calls him or herself a progressive or conservative but whose words and deeds show they are anything but. Some Republicans may be able to fool the teabagging crowd and old white Independents with double talk and spin, but this crowd is a mere tiny minority. Just wait until Independents in Va. realize the newly elected governor, who pretended to be a centrist, is really a hard core conservative. Welcome to teabagger land, Indies. Maybe next time you won't be fooled by self-serving liars.
John Cornyn, of course, is gloating all over the place about two the Democratic gubernatorial losses.
These Republican victories clearly demonstrate a strong wave for our candidates in the 2010 midterm elections," said Sen. John Cornyn, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
And predictably, good ol' Taliban Pete Sessions is also salivating over the Democratic gubernatorial losses. Check out Matt Glazer's piece over at The Burnt Orange Report.
This morning on Pacifica radio a caller told her story about the plight of those without health insurance. Because of pre-existing conditions insurance for her family of 4 would cost a whopping $3200.00 per year with a $12,000. deductible, which means little very insurance coverage. She, like many folks, cannot afford it. When her 10 year old daughter badly sprained her arm, the trip to the ER and treatment came to between $1500.-$2000. This is beyond ridiculous.
This is why I have such contempt for the self-serving shills like the teabagger nut job below. They are doing all they can to make the lives of the woman who called Pacifica and others more desperate than they already are.
Caught Red Handed. Sen. Grassley Voted for "Death Panels" in 2003
Oh those lying liars and the lies they tell.
According to Amy Sullivan at Time many of the very same death panel liars voted in favor of end-of-life counseling in 2003.
You would think that if Republicans wanted to totally mischaracterize a health care provision and demagogue it like nobody's business, they would at least pick something that the vast majority of them hadn't already voted for just a few years earlier. Because that's not just shameless, it's stupid.
Yes, that's right. Remember the 2003 Medicare prescription drug bill, the one that passed with the votes of 204 GOP House members and 42 GOP Senators? Anyone want to guess what it provided funding for? Did you say counseling for end-of-life issues and care? Ding ding ding!!
Jed Lewison of Daily Kos captured a video of our tea bagging Guv. Folks might want to read the comments below Jed's diary to see the level of scorn Rick Perry and other Texas Republicans have brought to Texas. It is not pretty.
I noticed a very interesting post on Daily Kos today concerning AARP and its political clout in Washington.
The No Party may have really blown it big time when it turned its back on The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. AARP, along with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Labor and numerous state governors supported the stimulus bill. AARP had warned Washington's lawmakers that failure to vote for the bill would result in consequences.
AARP happens to be one of the biggest lobbyists in Washington. It wields a lot of influence because it has a huge membership comprised of the largest segment of the U.S. population - the baby boomers. And many of we the baby boomers are not happy with the way W. & Co. ran the country especially since our life time savings, i.e. our retirement nest eggs have been decimated. We also cannot help but wonder what would have happened to us had Bush been allowed to turn our social security funds over to the Wall St. fat cats as he and Cheney had originally intended. Would we all be living with our kids or under freeways in our ripe old age? Many of us view both as very likely outcomes for our generation. No matter how young or old a baby boomer happens to be, a majority of us know that Bush was an unmitigated disaster for our (and possibly our children's) long-term financial security.
AARP is not happy with the No Party and it has taken action to punish it. This effort along with President Obama's brand new transparency web site is going make a little trouble for the GOP naysayers and doom and gloom fabricators.
Tom Delay's interview with Chris Mathews is the talk of the blogosphere. The interview coincides with Delay's release of his new book titled "No Retreat, No Surrender: One American's Fight". Watch the video. Is it just me or is it clear that Tom Delay didn't read his own book that he supposedly wrote?
Delay actually denied he called Dick Armey "useless" and "drunk with ambition" even as Chris Mathews showed him the passage in his book!
Tom, how can you expect us to read your crap if you don't read it yourself? Can you guys believe this guy represented us? That he represented me?!?
Of course, this is the same Tom Delay who called the religious extremists he used to gain power "wackos." This is the same Tom Delay who railed theatrically to an empty House chamber over the arrogance and moral decay of Democrats while he took money from lobbiest and funneled $500,000 to his wife and daughter for being his "campaign managers." I guess they must've been pretty damn good considering no serious candidate ran against him till 2004.
Another case of Republican "Do as I say not as I do" - and in this case, it's read my book (and make me richer) even though I the "author" haven't.
But what's interesting, and it may be the only thing interesting, about the book is how much Tom Delay rips up the conservatives he served with. Dick Armey was useless. New Gingrich was a womanizing hypocrite for chastizing Bill Clinton. George Bush is no true conservative (now that he's an acknowledge loser).
No one spared as Tom Delay returns to his former glory and blames everyone but himself for the failure of the conservative movement. Wow, Tom, how could you! Ate tu, Delay?
