I felt it was high time for me to pay a call to our esteemed U.S. Senators to inquire about the recent financial melt down on Wall St. Since as a taxpayer I will be expected to step up and bail out a bunch of corrupted greed mongers I believe I deserve an explanation from those who got us into this unbelievable mess in the first place.
Dear Senator,
In the past two weeks I feel as if I have been hit by two devastating hurricanes. Many residents in the Houston and Galveston areas are still without power and most continue to struggle with Ike's aftermath. The nation's fourth largest city and its surrounding areas have taken a tremendous beating.
Just when we were beginning to think we could see the light at the end of Ike's tunnel we now find ourselves suddenly blindsided by another hurricane. This one did not sweep in from the Gulf. This unexpected monster came hurdling down from Wall St. and its aftermath could prove far more cataclysmic than Ike.
What is this business about a financial bailout using the taxpayer's money? It seems to me that a group of greedy and corrupted fat cats on Wall St., with the blessings of their supporters and cheerleaders in Congress, raped and pillaged the United States and now taxpayers are being asked to pay for the carnage. And we're supposed to turn over nearly $1 trillion and say "we trust you to clean up after yourselves."
Please.
See what Naomi Klein, author of The Shock Doctrine has to say about the Wall Street debacle.
I saw Sicko yesterday afternoon. You have to see this movie!!! The look at how ridiculous American health care is compared to other countries who have True Universal Health care is an eye opener. I am sure Boadicea will write a more in depth review later but I give it 10 thumps up!!!!
Judging by its title, Sicko might be mistaken for a slasher flick, and the assumption is not far off the mark. Not because of violence. Not because of gore. But because it is, in some ways, a horror film.
Among its victims:
Rick, who sawed off two fingertips but could only afford to reattach one — for $12,000. Carole, who couldn't pay her hospital bills and was dumped at a homeless shelter in her flapping white gown. Tracy, who was denied coverage for a bone-marrow transplant and died, weeks later, of kidney cancer.
The Director of FMEA, R. David Paulison, who took over for Michael "Heckuva Job" Brown, says he may MAY watch Spike Lee's incredible documentary on Katrina and its aftermath in NOLA.
IF he isn't "bogged down" in hurricane relief efforts this.
Um. WHAT hurricane? Considering how quiet it's been this season, Paulison, are you really going to use that lame excuse?
I'm sorry, but that's just BULL. Your agency thoroughly failed during Katrina and millions of Americans were impacted and thousands died.
And you can't commit to watching a documentary of real people - black, white, rich & poor - talk about their experiences during the hurricane? Actually testimony that could help you understand the devastation caused by your agency's incompetence and make it better?
You would be a fool to turn that down. Or a weak minded individual who couldn't handle criticism.
Make time, Paulison! Make one less speech, sit your butt in front of television, and watch that incredible documentary!! It's called "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts" - and EVERY American should see it.
It came as a result of wmtriallawyer's diary challenging Kossacks to raise the awareness of Hurricane Katrina and remind people just how badly this President & the GOP failed the Gulf Region.
I encourage you to participate & to post your own thoughts on Katrina and Hurricane Rita here at Texas Kaos.
This hasn’t been much discussed lately, what with all the political scandals emerging, so I thought I’d start the topic off again since hurricane season is right around the corner.
I’m not by any stretch an expert on emergency preparedness and I offer only some common sense suggestions for getting your family ready to face any natural or (heaven forbid) man-made disaster that may unfold. There are a lot of Kos users who are experts and their input is most welcome in the comments.
"You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard."
The GOP is carrying around a big ass clipboard called Katrina & they have promised to take a "good hard look" at the problem & Gol-durn-it! do something!
SO, after running around the hallways for SEVEN months, going to meeting after useless meeting, what did their intense sessions produce?
They want to scrap FEMA & replace it with, um, another FEMA but um, it'll be waaaaay heckuva (Brownie) lot better because it's, well, named the NPRA.
Describing FEMA as a “shambles and beyond repair,” Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine said the reforms “will help ensure that we do not have a repeat of the failures following Hurricane Katrina.”
This con is called the Ole Switcheroo! Offer one thing & give 'em something else!
