Maddow Shines Bright Light on FOX and GOP Race Baiting

by: Libby Shaw

Thu Jul 22, 2010 at 21:08:37 PM CDT

Vyan over at Daily Kos has written an excellent piece about MSNBC's Rachel Maddow's deconstruction of Fox's race baiting and the Republican Party's most recent southern strategy of scorched earth politics.

The Right's Favorite Teabagger Mental Case Spouts Off Again

by: Libby Shaw

Sun Apr 18, 2010 at 15:16:44 PM CDT

I wonder if MDs who are on track to become psychiatrists are required to view the ravings of a publicly deranged Glenn Beck.

A case study in psycho talk.

Deep and dark delusional thoughts and obsessive paranoia. Freudian projection. Incoherent logic. Disorganized speech. Difficulties with comprehending perceptions of reality.

The only thing you should fear Glenn, is yourself.

The Right Goes Ballistic. Again

by: Libby Shaw

Fri Sep 04, 2009 at 13:07:27 PM CDT

Gee whiz.   I sure hope, for their own sorry sakes, right wing Republicans have decent health care coverage.  I mean, at the rate at which they are blowing fuses and blood vessels over literally everything proposed by President Obama, good health care coverage sure is necessary for one's survival in avoiding and overcoming strokes and heart attacks.

OK, so the latest hysteria emanating from the right has to do with a speech President Obama will make to school children about staying in school, working hard to achieve good grades and taking personal responsibility for one's actions.  This should be music to a parent's ears, especially in Texas where we have the highest number of school dropouts and our schools rank second to last nationwide.

But oh no, au contraire and God forbid, should a child work hard to stay in school, earn top notch grades, graduate with honors and gain acceptance in a top tier university.

It seems that the right has plenty of problems with staying in school, at least according to comments posted by on-line readers of the The Houston Chronicle.

Some object to Obama speech to students

According to the right President Obama will "indoctrinate" and "brain wash" students.

About?

Getting good grades?   Taking responsibility?

No one howled when President G.W. Bush read to school children on the day our nation was horribly and ruthlessly attacked.

Nick Anderson, the Houston Chronicle, 9/3/09.

And where were these very same wingnuts when  President George H.W. Bush spoke to school children at the eve of his campaign in 1992?

I guess a little ol' indoctrination and spin is harmless when it comes from a really rich white guy.

Beyond the Pale Hate Talk from the Right

by: Libby Shaw

Wed Jul 01, 2009 at 17:01:56 PM CDT

Who needs to worry about foreign terrorists when we have domestic ones right here at home who are encouraged to spew hate and wish us dead on national cable TV.

According to Michael Scheuer who appeared on FOX's Glenn Beck show today:

The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States.

This is absolutely outrageous and unacceptable.

Scheuer is the former CIA chief of the Osama bin Laden unit from 1996-1999.  He obviously did a brilliant job of keeping tabs on OBL during his tenure on the unit.

Karl Rove Lies About Specter Switch

by: Libby Shaw

Tue Apr 28, 2009 at 14:38:20 PM CDT

As one would expect Karl Rove blatantly lied about Senator Arlen Specter's motivation for switching his Party affiliation from Republican to Democrat.

In a statement issued earlier today, Senator Specter said his former Party had moved too far right.

Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans.

Speaking from FOX Looney Tunes News, Rove said Specter had lurched left.

At The Top of Trickle Down Torture

by: Libby Shaw

Sun Apr 26, 2009 at 16:19:38 PM CDT

The torture reports, continued.

No wonder Dick Cheney has been appearing so frequently on FOX News.  It's an attempt for him to defend his deplorable record and to distract the media and the public from the truth.  Cheney has been attacking President Obama right and left in order to change the subject about torture.

You see, reports reveal that Dick Cheney and Condoleezza Rice signed off on torture.

A newly declassified narrative of the Bush administration's advice to the CIA on harsh interrogations shows that the small group of Justice Department lawyers who wrote memos authorizing controversial interrogation techniques were operating not on their own but with direction from top administration officials, including then-Vice President Dick Cheney and National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice.

Trickle Down Torture

by: Libby Shaw

Thu Apr 23, 2009 at 12:27:45 PM CDT

First, from the Texas wing of The Party of Torture and Tax Cuts.

Senator John Cornyn, prominent member of the Party of Torture and willing player in the Bush Administration's
Journey to Depravity must think Democrats are quaking in their boots because, according to The Huffington Post he attempted to bully and blackmail them on the torture issue.

Cornyn apparently prefers to sweep the recent revelations of torture under the rug.  That or pin the blame on Democrats who served on the Foreign Intelligence Committee at the time, and/or stick it to low level military and CIA officers at the bottom of the torture chain of command.

If Democrats insist on probing the Bush administration's program of detainee torture, they'd better be careful, a senior Senate Republican said Tuesday, because they might find blood on their own hands as well.

"To sit quietly and to let this happen and then to come back later and say people ought to be prosecuted criminally, not just here in the United States but perhaps internationally, to me is inconsistent, to say the least," said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).

I'd be very careful if I were Big John.

Ongoing Psycho Babble From the Right

by: Libby Shaw

Sat Apr 11, 2009 at 11:34:24 AM CDT

So, we've been hearing a lot of chatter on cable TV this week about a Fox News/GOP Tea Party Revolution.  Fox News and the right wing fringe of the GOP have obviously gone completely bat bleep crazy over something.  They are screaming day in and day about something.  I am not sure what it is at this point.  I've heard rants like "taxation without representation."

Huh?  As I've mentioned before, we had an election recently that did not require lawsuits or recounts.  This week President Obama has a 66% approval rating.  The Democratic Party is at 51% while the Republican Party has a 26% approval rating.  A majority of Independents and some moderate Republicans support President Obama's agenda.

So why is there so noise spewing from the right?   Is this tea party thing merely a childish tantrum thrown by a bunch of sore losers and clowns?

Let's explore a few events of this past week to try to find an answer.

So Now They Want a Revolution? (Updated)

by: Libby Shaw

Mon Apr 06, 2009 at 17:20:55 PM CDT

Lately we have been hearing a lot of squawking and screeching emanating from the conservative right wing about a revolution.

This is rather perplexing given that we recently had an election in which the elected President won rather substantially without the need for voter caging, voter suppression, election fraud, recounts, recount shut downs, lawsuits and the Supreme Court.  Nor was it necessary to bring in the likes of a Swift Boat attack machine and a corrupted Secretary of State (R-OH) to deliver a win in a razor thin, close election.

And despite all of the problems we face in these dire and stressful times the President's approval ratings remain in the 60's.  Today it is at 67%. Today an ABC/Washington Post poll also reveals 65% trust President Obama to handle relations with Muslim nations.

So, what is the problem?  Why is a revolution necessary now?

President Obama's Recession? 80% of Americans Respond "Huh?"

by: Libby Shaw

Wed Apr 01, 2009 at 21:26:58 PM CDT

According to Media Matters, despite the attempts by some in mainstream media to pin our economic woes and recession on President Obama, recent polls show that 80% of Americans blame our current financial misery on the banks, Wall Street and the Bush Administration.

That would be eight in ten Americans.

We the eight in ten people are obviously light years ahead of the media's water carriers for a failed Republican agenda. Our opinion of the spewers of Republican lies and misinformation?

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

Republican Welfare Queen: Sarah Palin Takes $150K Handout for Shopping Spree at Neimans.

by: Libby Shaw

Thu Oct 23, 2008 at 16:50:48 PM CDT

Cross posted on The Burnt Orange Report.

I have to admit I have been admiring Palin's taste in clothing, especially the red leather jacket she wore the other day. Thanks to recent news reports now I know why I've been paying attention to her wardrobe.  Palin's outfits have been created by the finest designers in the world of haute couture.  Sigh.  Guess I'd better forget about ever owning that red leather jacket unless I can find a knock off at Chico's.

Sarah sure has exquisite taste in clothes.  Price seems to be no limit when someone else is footing the bill.  And like "Joe the Plumber" who is not a plumber, Palin does not like to pay her fair share of taxes, either.

Another grim lesson I have learned from Republicans who are running for office is that when they demonize something or something or attack someone for doing something they should not be doing, chances are the Republican is doing the very thing they are hyperventilating about.

Lately Sarah Palin has been stomping across the so-called red parts of America in her $600 a pop high heels and $12,000. suits while attacking Barack Obama whom she calls a socialist b/c he wants to redistribute the wealth. Duh, isn't that what taxes are supposed to do?  Never mind.

According to Palin,  Obama wants to steal money from the small business owners like Joe the Plumber who is not a plumber, nor does he own a business, and give it to other Americans who are very likely fake or anti-American.

The truth of the matter is Sarah Palin is the real socialist. Aside from the $150K wardrobe handout, as the governor of oil rich Alaska Sarah taxes the oil companies and transfers the revenues to her and the people of Alaska.

McCain Gives Himself a Big Wet One Even Fox Can't Stand

by: boadicea

Ironically, given my last item, apparently there are some standards at Fox News.

The McCain town hall infomercial last evening caused what  passes for consternation when speaking of any Republican.

Or else Carl Cameron had a slight case of gas:

Fox News Hires New "Comic Relief"-Mike Huckabee

by: boadicea

Fri Jun 13, 2008 at 11:10:04 AM CDT

So, apparently the way to Roger Ailes' heart is to joke about assassinating presidential candidates.

As Jeffrey Feldman points out:

Huckabee now joins Liz Trotta and E.D. Hill on the dubious list of FOX News' on-air personalities who have debased the public airwaves by either joking about he murder of a sitting senator and high-profile candidate for President, or  who have gratuitously insinuated that a sitting senator and high-profile candidate for President--as well as the candidate's wife--are terrorists.

On Investigative Journalism, Or, More Obama Connections Come To Light

by: fake consultant

Fri Apr 18, 2008 at 17:00:47 PM CDT

Your friendly fake consultant has been digging deep into the world of anonymous sources recently, which is why we were able to recently reveal the truth about Hillary Clinton's Bosnian sniper story.

Today we take that effort further...which is why we are able to bring to light another exclusive peek into the past of a Presidential candidate...only today it's Barack Obama.

We will examine his prior associations and as a result we will be able to draw new conclusions regarding his world view...and as we said about Clinton, you might be shocked...but probably not surprised.

Why I Would Never Vote Republican

by: Libby Shaw

Thu Aug 30, 2007 at 21:01:01 PM CDT

The reasons are numerous but here are just a few.  (See also Part II which will follow this diary.)

First and foremost, Republicans lie.  Some in the party are pathological liars, too, especially those in the Bushie neocon wing.

News about no WMD and no ties to Al-Qaeda in Iraq is old and stale.  We had a rubber-stamping do nothing Congress when this grim fact became reality and our elected leaders failed to hold the President and Vice President accountable.

And though the majority of Americans now know for certain our great nation was misled into a human calamity and debacle, the Republicans continue to try to put a happy and delusional spin on our "progress" there.  They can't wait to get their hands on General Petraeus's report and ship it straightaway to the mythmaking and happy talk department for "reinterpretation" and quick delivery to the propaganda arm over at Fox News.

How much is that Repug in the Audience?

If you can stomach 30 minutes of Republicans trying to be funny, you can make $15 by watching The Half Hour News Hour and laughing when told.  Seriously!

Saturday Open Thread: Poltiical Discourse and the Public Air Waves

by: lightseeker

Sat Jul 21, 2007 at 11:31:06 AM CDT

This item ended up in my Email box this morning:

Senate Democrats foil attempt to bar 'Fairness Doctrine

Senate Democrats last night beat back a Republican attempt to attach an anti-Fairness Doctrine bill as an amendment to education legislation.

The doctrine, a former requirement that broadcasters present opposing points of view on political issues, was scrapped in 1987 by the Federal Communications Commission, which said the policy restricted journalistic freedom. The bill by Sen. Norm Coleman, Minnesota Republican, would prevent the FCC from reinstating the doctrine.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It continued:

"We live in an age of satellite radio, of broadband, of blogs, of Internet, of cable TV, of broadcast TV. There is no limitation on the ability of anyone from any political persuasion to get their ideas set forth," Mr. Coleman argued in support of the Broadcaster Freedom Act of 2007. "The public in the end will choose what to listen to."

By a vote of 49-48, senators voted not to consider Mr. Coleman's amendment after Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, raised a point of order. Senate rules require 60 votes to waive a point of order.
