Republican lawmakers seem to suffer from a serious case of bi-polar disorder. The Party of No (because they vote NO on every bill in the U.S. Congress that would throw a life line to we the little people) suddenly say YES when major $$$$$$$$$ federal bucks will flow to their districts.
Bringing big bucks to Republican districts pleases both voters and the politician's fat cat donors. Republican lawmakers somehow believe they can vote NO in Washington but take credit for YES results that come from the evil doing Democrats in the U.S. Congress.
I guess Republican lawmakers assume their constituents are both stupid and uninformed.
We have a fresh load of Republican award winning hypocrites who join Senators Hutchison and Cornyn in the GOP Hall of Hypocritical Shame.
All voted against the recovery act but all behave as if they personally delivered stimulus money to their home districts.
• Representative Pete Sessions (TX-32) - Representative Pete Sessions showed his hypocrisy after asking the Obama Administration for three billion in funds for NASA from the economic recovery act, which he voted against. Members of the Texas delegation signed the letter, including two Republican Senators and 19 House Republicans who all voted against the recovery act in February. [Texas delegation wants stimulus money for NASA, Houston Chronicle, 10/5/09]
• Representative Michael McCaul (TX-10) - "I didn't support final passage but at the same time I wanted to make sure if we are spending that kind of money that much of that gets directed to Texas." [KVUE News; 2/22/09]

According to the DCCC there are 67 House Republicans who voted against the stimulus package. But when these no voters are back in their home states they like to brag and swagger about bringing home the bacon. On a different level, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison joins these ranks. She voted against the stimulus bill and yet she criticized Rick Perry for turning down federal funding for extended unemployment benefits.
Texas has its fair share of outstanding hypocrites. Check the list below to see if your U.S. House Rep. is included in the GOP Hall of Hypocrites. I am not shocked to admit that my Rep. is among them. I betcha your's are too.
to tax $165 million of the billions of U.S. bail out funds doled out to AIG.
U.S. Taxpayers now own 80% of AIG.
AIG used $165 million of our taxpayer dollars to fund rather generous bonus packages for its executives.
In an attempt to recoup the misused bailout money, a 90% tax penalty on the AIG bonus packages passed in the U.S. Congress today with a vote of 328 for, 93 against.
Uh Oh. Boss Rush won't be happy with his 87 Republicans who voted yes to increased taxes and socialism.
The other 50% of U.S. House Republicans voted YES to the continual plunder, pillage and robbery of our U.S tax dollars by corporate fat cats and lobbyists.
Boss Rush will be very, very happy with his 85 Republican soul mates who voted for the right of corporations to perpetully rape and pillage our national treasury. After all, the Boss is a rather substantial fat cat himself in terms of both his personal wealth and physical appearance.
Meet the faces of the conservative corporate protectors whose ideology supports free, unregulated and unfettered rights for corporations to rob taxpayers blind.
This morning when I opened the Houston Chronicle, one of the front page articles immediately grabbed my attention.
Texans Rip Budget Yet Add to Cost
The online edition reads:
Texas lawmakers rip budget, but seek millions
The Houston Chronicle does not single out Republicans, of course, because Texas Democrats added to the budget's costs as well. However, the Democrats are not bellowing and bellyaching about the stimulus budget while the Republicans continue to 24/7.
What hypocritical jackasses. Do Republican lawmakers actually believe they can continue to fool us with their double talk and embarrass us by their endless clown shows?
There are a number of issues percolating in the blogosphere about the forthcoming (or not) Republican Convention and the Party in general. Will Hurricane Gustav save their sorry butts from a public melt down or will it put put yet another nail in the Party's coffin?
Thousands upon thousands of protesters are expected to show up at the Convention. Given the hoards of anti-war, pro-choice and environmental organizations, these groups alone are significantly large in number. Add Ron Paul's supporters to the mix and there could very well be more protestors outside than GOP inside.
Apparently the RNC wasn't able to purge disaffected Paul supporters from its delegation. And, according to Inside These Times blogger Hans Johnson writes that a number of local GOP officials are fleeing from their party. They include state reps from Wisconsin, Colorado, Missouri, New York, Washington and a mayor in Minnesota. Many cite the rigidity of the current GOP and some are frustrated that the party no longer even closely resembles its brand as created by Ronald Reagan.
Here is where the sacred private property Repubicans (hello Ron Paul and libertarians) get it on with the national security means the government gets a free ride Republicans, sorta. [ picture from LA Times ]
(It is uplifting to find posts like this ever so often. A reminder of why we are! - promoted by lightseeker)
I have a friend I worked with here in Texas over the last ten years or so. In the telecomm meltdown he lost his job and ended up in Florida. He considers himself a Libertarian. Couple of nights ago we had a bit of a discussion about the current political events, Ron Paul and our Constitution. He of course is a bit of a Ron Paul fan, but in the discussion he said the Constitution was written way too long ago and we should not take it literally! I asked him how he then could support Paul? No real answer.
Our Constitution can not be taken literally. After spending 28 years in the Navy defending the Constitution that does not register. I was then reminded of Barbra Jordan's statement about the Constitution.
Bush's veto of the CHIP funding increase has really gotten some of us in Galveston County riled. Nick Lampson, one of our congresspersons voted yes. Ron Paul, of course voted no. So we are going to have a protest this Monday. The Daily News will be there to cover it. I want to invite everyone to join us if you can.
I was going to try to watch a DVD on my computer tonight, before I get guests in town and have to give up my office space (which doubles as my guest room), but I can't get the right media player and I just give up. Yeah, I should just go out and get a DVD player for my TV, but that costs time and money, and look what missing a DVD gets me...I do some work online. Not such a loss.
My previous posts have been about West Texas and North Texas
Now, let's turn our eyes in a Southerly direction, and have a look at our Blue Valley. Bear with me on the maps. There are some problems with what's listed in the Wiki, but I've got individual links from the congressional pages.
In yet one more sign that John McCain can kiss his 2008 Presidency good-bye, Republican Presidential "dark horse" Ron Paul, the quirky former Libertarian and Houstonian, revealed that he has more money in the bank than "front-runner" John McCain.
Actually Paul in an interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News revealed he has $2.4 million in the bank. It was Stephanopoulos who remarked that amount was more than what McCain has in the bank.
And why does Ron Paul, who has been laughed at and dismissed by GOP leaders, have more money than John McCain, a man many of those leaders are supporting?
Because of images like the one above where John McCain showed once more just how out of touch with reality and the American people he has become. That's John McCain shaking hands with the man who he once called shameful after they maligned his wife, daughter and character in the 2000 elections.
Americans were STILL dying while these two were smiling.
The engineer of the "Straight Talk Express" has taken the crazy train to Bushville in the mistaken belief that it would get him the thing he most prizes: The Presidency. How McCain threw his values, his integrity, and (yes, I'll say it) his family under that train is one of the sadder examples of ambition and greed winning over honesty and principles.
Why does Ron Paul have money than John McCain? Because after years of being misled and flat lied to, Republicans are desperate to find someone in their leadership who will tell them the truth.
I don't support Ron Paul. I fundamentally disagree with his ideas, but I believe he'll at least be honest. That at least would be a nice change in a GOP President.
The Straight Talk Express has a new driver. The locomotive McCain's on is out of control and destined for derailment.
There was an interesting diary on the Orange Board praising Republican Ron Paul for a speech in which he condemned George Bush. It's not difficult to get excited about Paul when you listen to some of his speeches, like this one:

According to an Associated Press report released late last week, Dr. Ron Paul (R-Tx) is contemplating a run for the presidency in 2008. He has filed papers in Texas allowing him to form an exploratory committee that can raise money.
Well this is interesting. The Star-Telegram is reporting that Texas Republican Ron Paul has filed incorporation papers which will allow him to create a Presidential exploratory committee.
He's an anti-war libertarian and will probably turn out to be the Dennis Kucinich of the Republican primaries. Thoughts?
