TAKE TEXAS BACK!
A bunch of thieves, thugs, and nutcases took over Texas. Then they used it as a stepping stone to Washington, DC.

They raided our treasury, stripped our schools and handed it all to their corporate cronies.

Y'all ready to do something about it?

US Congress

More Republican Scandals

by: refinish69

Sun Apr 06, 2008 at 10:26:17 AM CDT

This new video was just released by the Steve Young for Congress campaign (CA-48).

Act Blue Page here

Please link to it or embed at will.  And give $10 or more to his campaign if you can.

I know this is a California race and we concentrate on Texas but after seeing this video and reading his issues page, I had to share it with our readers.

U.S. Congress TX 4: VaLinda Hathcox Is No Newcomer to Government

by: faithchatham

Thu Feb 07, 2008 at 20:59:45 PM CST

Posted by Faith Chatham for the VaLinda Hathcox for U.S. Congress, Texas District 4 Committee
Hathcox for Congress, VaLinda Hathcox for Congress, Burnt Orange Report

Why I'm in this race:
My roots in this district go back generations. My mother's family settled in Collin County in the 1800s. My parents settled in Wood and Hopkins Counties. I was born, educated, have lived and worked in the Texas 4th District all my life (except when in Law School in Austin or working for the people of Texas in as Deputy Attorney General and Director of Public Affairs, at the Texas Land Commission, or as Director of Legislative Affairs for the State Bar of Texas and for the Texas Association of Counties.

SteerVHsmall
VaLinda on the family's ranches (Hathcox Farms and Big H Ranch) with part of their herd of Texas Longhorns.
VaLinda's parents inherited only 20 acres of their 1000 acres. They worked and paid for what they acquired, but want to pass it on to their children.

For me, my family and most of my neighbors, Texas is more than just a state or an address -- it is part of us and we are intrinsically tied to it through more than just the land or where we work.

· Texas is a culture where we carve better opportunities and more just, fairer practices for successive generations.

· Texas is a culture where folks don't expect better to be easy.

· Texas is a place where hard work and diligence means incremental advancement for most folks, incredible success for some and where we work together to help prevent others from falling through the cracks.

· Texas is where we look at what we have realistically, face what got us where we are while figuring out better, more just, fairer laws, regulations and "ways of doing things" for the future.

Send the Sumbitch Back to the Sumbitch

by: boadicea

Wed May 02, 2007 at 07:05:24 AM CDT

It seems that W has invited Congressional leaders to the White House to discuss compromise capitulation on the Iraq war bill now that he's killed funding for with a stroke of his lucky veto pen.

They should bring a video setup because this message clearly needs to be delivered with visual aids.

Answer Bush's dare

by: David Van Os

Mon Jan 15, 2007 at 01:38:59 AM CST

(David Van Os' Weekly Column. - promoted by boadicea)

Today we celebrate the life and memory of Dr. Martin Luther, King. Jr., a great prophet of social justice and peace. What an irony that at this moment our illegitimate pretender of a president brazenly declares he is going to send more troops to the Iraqi killing grounds no matter what Congress says.

how north texas reps. voted on stem cell research

by: northtexasliberal

Sat Jan 13, 2007 at 22:43:04 PM CST

Well, at least they stand by their convictions.

The North Texas delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives voted exactly the same way they did the last go-round.

As reported at North Texas Liberal, this is a reintroduction of the same legislation that Bush used his first veto on last year.  He will likely veto it again this time, and Congress will not be able to muster two-thirds support to override it.

Check under the cut for a full list of how our North Texas legislators voted this time.

TX-32: Sessions Shows Lack of Interest In Average Texans In Opposing Minimum Wage Hike

by: alaprst

Sat Jan 13, 2007 at 14:35:54 PM CST

If you knew nothing else about Rep. Pete Sessions (TX CD-32), it's that he doesn't display a lot of concern about average Texans.
Sessions showed his continued lack of concern about many of his constituents when he voted against the just-passed proposal raising the minimum wage.

Nancy Pelosi bans Smoking at US Capitol

by: peaceFestival

Thu Jan 11, 2007 at 12:51:27 PM CST

I did not even know smoking was allowed in Congress, or actually the sitting area next to the House floor. Nancy Pelosi however has put a stop to it.

What's that smell? Well, if you were to ask House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, it's the smell of progress. Yesterday, the halls of Congress in the vicinity of the floor of the House of Representatives might have a strong cigarette and cigar odor. But today, visitors, congressmen and all those who pack the nation's Capitol can breathe easy as the nation's first female Speaker has instituted a ban on smoking in the formal sitting area adjacent to the floor of the House, known as the Speaker's Lobby.

In a statement released this morning, Speaker Pelosi proclaimed, "The days of smoke-filled rooms in the United States Capitol are over," insisting Congress set an example for the rest of the nation.

No offense to the smokers out there, but I like it! After smoking for much of the 70s & 80s, I stopped in 92 and happy as heck I did. My family's happy too.

And don't throw civil liberties at me. No mom should endanger her kids' health by smoking around them. If one of them gets lung cancer because of me, I'm not sure how I'll be able to live with myself.

He Went To The Mountain And Found a Molehill

by: BobHiggins

Mon Dec 04, 2006 at 19:49:39 PM CST

The midterm election is barely over and the religious far right is already acting out over incoming Minnesota Democratic Congressman Keith Ellison's stated intention to be sworn in using the Koran rather than the Bible.

Ellison, the first member of the Islamic faith to be elected to the United States Congress has served in the Minnesota Legislature. His desire to use the Koran at his swearing-in ceremony has apparently caused great consternation and hand wringing among some of the luminaries of the religious and not so religious right. Fox News' Sean Hannity, famous for making mole hills appear as mountains could not pass up an opportunity to dig in to this nonsensical non issue last week.

His invited guest was a guy named Dennis Prager who I am told has a right wing talk-show in Los Angeles, I envision the type of show that Donald Fagin sang of in "Night Fly."

"So you say there's a race of men in the trees, I wait all night for calls like these." Donald Fagin

I will probably never understand what motivates these people to worship the symbols and trappings of a particular religious faith rather than the substance, the core, the Deity. I would think it should be obvious to the fateful that it is Nature's God that is the object of worship not the icons, the bones of the Saints, nor the pot shards of religious history.

But no, this crowd lives on symbolism, Jesus on the dashboard, eat a flag for breakfast, pray loudly in the streets and beat your breast in public so that you may be seen as pious, among the pious. of (In spite of Christ's admonition against such behavior)

Religion aside it is a bit disturbing that after so many years and so much debate that they are still unable to read and understand The Constitution of the United States of America.

It seems to me that somewhere in that document it is clearly stated that the Constitution itself is an establishment of the People of the United States, yes now I remember clearly, it's in the preamble:

"We the people of the United States, in order to for more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." Preamble to the Constitution of the United States

It might be noticed that there is no mention of God, Allah, Yahweh, Jesus, Buddha, nor any others among history's pantheon of available deities. Also notice that there is no mention of God as the establishing authority as the Jimmy Swaggart, Falwell, Robertson, Parsley, Tammy Faye shoofly pie, down home revival wing of American thought would have us believe.

Sekula-Gibbs Embarrasses Texas & Texas Women

by: krazypuppy

Wed Nov 15, 2006 at 15:01:50 PM CST

If the whole Congress thing doesn't work out for Shelley Sekula-Rodriguez-Gibbs-WhateversNext, she can always be a stand up comedian!

Yes, that's Gibbs next to our favorite pedophile enabler, Republican Dennis "the Menace" Hasert. One presumes she is giving him a high-five.

Shelley is the featured act in perhaps the funniest article I've read in the WaPo entitled "Lame-Duck Texas Rep. Gets Down to Work Without DeLay." Get it? Without Delay? I was laughing so much my checks started looking like Shelley's signature pair.

Gibbs of course was completely clueless that reporters were laughing at her and not with her (curse you, liberal media!). But clueless is the right word for Gibbs. She will be a Representative for all of 2 weeks (not counting recess when she goes out to play I presume) finishing Tom Delay's term before Democrat Nick Lampson who beat Gibbs in November takes over. Just what the heck does she think she'd going to accomplish?

"I'm working hard to accomplish the things I'm working for," she said yesterday. "For tax cuts. For immigration reform. To make sure we have a good solution for the war in Iraq."

Um, Shelley. It's a lame duck session and most of the members are packing up. Fixing Iraq and abolishing the IRS sounds a wee (or is that WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!) bit pretentious, don't ya think? Give me a "D"! Give me a "U"! Give me a "M"! What's that spell? Even reporters weren't buying it:

All that? In a few weeks? "If there's a way to do it, I'll do it," she said, smiling beneath her bright blond hair. "I'm proud that the people of the 22nd Congressional District honored me with their votes."

um, Shelley, you lost. We voted for the other guy. Now I know why she's a dermatologist cause that's the depth of her brain-power. And forgive me for being mean, but Dear. God. this woman is going to represent Texas. Wait a second. This woman represents ME!!

Open Thread: Democrats Take House and (I Predict) Senate

by: krazypuppy

Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 09:50:54 AM CST

As you guys know, the press has called the House for us, but not the Senate.

Both the Montana and Virginia races are tight but in both races the Democrat (John Tester and Jim Webb) are leading by slim but firm 2000+ and 7800+ votes respectively.

REPEAT THE MEMO: DEMOCRATS HAVE WON THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE.

We saw the power of persuasion when the GOP insisted they won in 2000 and 2004.

PUT THEM AGAINST THE WALL! Make them look like sorry losers for not conceding.

This is not to say we shouldn't have ONE FAIR recount. Democrats believe that every citizens vote should count. But no bullying and no legal shenanigans just because you're bad sports.

Repeat again: Democrats won the House & Senate!!

Open thread - make yerself heard! And notice neither of those Repubs are smiling!

Texas Candidates - who do you want to add? & Welcome Tim Barnwell!

by: TexasKaos.com

Thu Aug 03, 2006 at 22:26:28 PM CDT

Texas Kaos proudly welcomes Tim Barnwell into the family of Texas Candidates you need to help elect in 2006. Tim's running for District 26 against  Republican Michael Burgess.

I like Barnwell's slogan: Not for Sale! What a concept!

TIM BARNWELL and a Democratic Congress will:

  * fight to raise the minimum wage and repeal subsidies for companies that send our jobs overseas.
  * overturn Republican cuts in financial assistance to college students.
  * repeal the Republican bill that denied competition in drug pricing for Medicare Part D, and will work toward health coverage for all Americans.
  * return to the fiscal responsibility of the Clinton years and reduce the deficit and the debt.
  * champion stem cell research, providing hope to millions of Americans for cures from catastrophic diseases.
  * promote alternative fuels, fuel efficiency, and reduce dependency on foreign oil.
  * follow up on the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission and demand oversight of the administration’s build-up to and conduct of the war on Iraq.

Who do y'all wanna see on the list?

Kaufman County Dems meet up and Charlie Thompson for US TX-05

by: terrelldemocrat

Sat Jul 22, 2006 at 17:26:44 PM CDT

We had our Kaufman County meet up today in Forney, TX. It was fun, being able to speak to people who think like I do. There were probably about twelve or so people there. It was really a way for our County Chair to let people what can be expected, and to get ideas on how to get more exposure for our candidates.

Bear Gleason was there, he is running against Betty Brown for State Rep Dist 4.
Charlie Thompson was scheduled to be there, but had dental work done yesterday, so he was not feeling well today. I think we have all been in that boat.

If you are an American citizen with skills and expertise in any field relevant to the operation of the legislative, judicial or executive branches of the American government Uncle Sam wants you.

The People are currently seeking men and women with talent and competence in any area who are willing to work forty eight weeks a year at the People's business, keep their hands out of the cookie jar and themselves out of the beds of those who would corrupt the government to serve their own interests.

New Federal Ombudsman To Oversee Congress

by: BobHiggins

Fri May 19, 2006 at 14:02:17 PM CDT

I gassed up this morning and it cost me over three bucks a gallon, on the way home I stopped at the store for a loaf of bread which cost me $1.39 for the same loaf of crappy white sandwich bread I paid $.99 for a month ago.
